Service-mindedness is evident in our operations, as well. We constantly strive to create new and unique solutions for our customers, taking into account legislative requirements. Our goal is to stay current or even a step ahead in superstructure manufacturing.
Pertti Elg started his entrepreneurial journey in the early 1960s as an earthmoving contractor. As his business became established and his business relationships developed, he was presented with an opportunity to become a partner in a company called Asfalttilinja Oy, which was engaged in asphalt contracting. With the increasing demand for asphalt work, he gradually phased out his work in earthmoving contracting. Over time, Asfalttilinja Oy expanded, and the partners deemed it advantageous to sell their company.
While working in earthmoving and asphalt jobs, Pertti Elg conceived the idea of developing transportation equipment for earth materials. In the early 1970s, in the garage of his own house, the engineering firm "Insinööritoimisto Pertti Elg tmi" began manufacturing what became known as cassette bodies. These bodies provided a significant efficiency boost to transport companies, allowing them to carry two loads at once.
The business grew, and the sole proprietorship was transformed into a limited partnership in 1975. Pertti Elg purchased a plot of land in Nurmijärvi, Nummensyrjä, from the Nurmijärvi parish, where construction of an industrial hall began. Over the following years, the hall was expanded using the earnings from the business, and some spaces were rented out to other companies. When the building rights on the land were exhausted, Pertti Elg acquired a neighbouring farm to allow for further expansion of the industrial space.
With accumulated experience in steel construction, and still interested in asphalt work, Pertti Elg established a new company in 1977 called Repelg Oy. This company, using self-manufactured machinery, specialised in providing subcontracting services to asphalt contractors, particularly in the production of hot mix surfaces (TASK/MPKJ).
The tradition of founding a new company around a new idea continued. In 1981, Jepetek Oy was established, specialising in manufacturing hydraulic beams for asphalt pavers. Subsequently, Elg-koneet Oy (1985) was founded, focusing on the production of asphalt pavers. In 1989, with a nod to tradition, asphalt contracting was resumed under the business name Asfalttilinja Oy (formerly Elg-koneet Oy).
Jepetek Oy pioneered the so-called "remixer" method (an asphalt recycling technique) in Finland in 1990.
In the autumn of 1994, a restructuring took place, consolidating all family-owned companies into one entity, Elg-yhtiöt Oy. Pertti Elg and his four children became the owners of Elg-yhtiöt Oy.
On 1 December 1997, Jukka Elg assumed the position of CEO, while Pertti Elg transitioned to the role of Chairman of the Board.
Product development brought forth new types of containers. In the early 2000s, a new product with a different operating principle, the pull-cylinder automatic cassette, was developed. The patent granted to the pull-cylinder mechanism in 2004 strengthened our position in the market and attracted new customers to the company.
The year 2007 marked the last (so far) paving season. We made the decision to focus on metals and real estate.
Real estate investment has grown.
The focus on heavy equipment superstructures and real estate investment continues.
The Government Decree on increased maximum masses in road traffic, which came into effect on 1 October 2013, caused significant changes in the size and structures of transport equipment.
